What is the best way to see the city?
There are lots of bus tours around the
city, and most of them allow you to get
on and off as often as you wish. The
best tactic is to take the full tour and
understand the layout of the city, then
spend some time visiting the main sites,
once you know where they are.
The city is quite hilly, so use the bus
to take you to the castle, then walk
downhill on the Royal Mile!
Is the
city safe?
The centre of Edinburgh is still
residential, so there are always people
around and there is very little crime in
the city centre. We wouldn't stay here
if that wasn't the case.
Can we tour
Scotland from Edinburgh?
Most of Scotland can be reached from
Edinburgh in one day, the exceptions are
the Outer Hebrides, Orkney and Shetland.
We have put together some one day
excursions from Edinburgh and would
recommend these as a way of seeing some
of the sights of Scotland. They are to
the centre and coast of Fife and St
Andrews (click
here) and to Stirling, Callander and
the Trossachs (click
here). In addition, day trips are
recommended to the Borders, to Glasgow
and to the whisky towns of Speyside.
Is there much golf nearby?
Silverknowes golf course is less than
2.5 miles away. However all of the most famous scottish golf
courses are less that 2 hours drive away
and many are less than 1 hour from
Edinburgh. They include the courses at
Muirfield, Dalmahoy, Gleneagles, St
Andrews, Carnoustie, Troon and Turnberry.
